Solar Together deadline extended

Solar Panels Being Installed

Residents interested in saving money and going green with solar panels have extra time to express their interest in a group-buying scheme.

The first round of Blaby District Council’s Solar Together 2024 was so successful the initiative will now run until September 13.

More than 2,500 households in Leicestershire and 460 in the District have already registered interest in Solar Together.

Run by group buying experts iChoosr, the scheme can help people save up to 45% on solar photovoltaic (PV) panel installations. Battery storage and electric vehicle charging stations are also on offer.

The scheme works on a reverse auction principle where verified firms bid for the installation work. The more people who sign up, the greater the savings which can be made due to economies of scale and geographical concentration.

On average, homeowners can save £2,577 per standard solar panel system made up of four to 25 panels by joining Solar Together.

Homeowners register for free and receive a personalised quote. There is no obligation to go ahead with an installation should the quote not be acceptable.

Councillor Cheryl Cashmore, Blaby District Council Portfolio Holder for Health, Leisure, Climate and Economic Development, said: "We are thrilled with the number of people who have already registered an interest in Solar Together. Now the deadline has been extended we are urging anyone else keen to embrace renewable energy to sign up too.

"We work with iChoosr on Solar Together to help people make the transition to clean energy as cost-effective and hassle-free as possible. By offering quotes from vetted and pre-approved firms we can reassure people of receiving quality installations with impressive savings. Hopefully it can make the whole process less daunting. Our ambition is to be a net zero District by 2050 and householders can help us achieve this with Solar Together."

Solar Together is promoted by Blaby District Council as part of the Green Living Leicestershire Group. Green Living Leicestershire is a partnership between authorities in the County to deliver projects supporting sustainability and net zero.
