Bouskell Park car park set to reopen
The finishing touches are being made to the refurbished car park at Bouskell Park, with reopening planned for Monday 27 January.
The car park in Blaby closed in October 2024 for renovation works funded by the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The work included:
• Resurfacing the car park
• Landscape improvements
• Low-level lighting to improve the look and feel of the park
• Clearly marked parking bays
• Two designated accessible spaces
• Widened gates and vehicle access
Physical work on site has now finished, while final touches will be completed before the car park can reopen in a few days.
The completed car park will be open Monday to Sunday from 7am, parking charges will apply from 8am to 6pm. Seasonal opening times will continue, with the car park open until 8.30pm from April to October, and 6pm across November to March.
Improvement works to the pavement along Welford Road, near the car park entrance, will be needed in the future to improve a historical issue with drainage. Blaby District Council has been working with Leicestershire County Council on a permanent solution to improve drainage near the entrance. For the safety of visitors, the car park will need to be temporarily closed for around a week later this year to allow for the work to be completed.
Councillor Nigel Grundy, Blaby District Council Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Assets, said: “Firstly I would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience while we’ve been completing the extensive refurbishment works.
“The great news is that thanks to government funding we’ve been able to provide a brand new environmentally friendly car park surface, provide marked bays and introduce new lighting and planting to improve the area for visitors.”
