Chairman of the Council
The Chairman of Blaby District Council is a traditional role given to a councillor for one year. The Council meets in May each year to appoint the Chairman. The current Chairman is Councillor Nick Chapman, whose term of office is 21 May 2024 to 20 May 2025.
Local organisations may invite the Chairman to attend an event they are organising. A member of the Council’s PA team will review and respond to invitations and make all the necessary arrangements for the Chairman to attend.
Events attended by the Chairman include galas, fetes, church services, visiting care homes and local businesses, as well as attending and hosting several Council receptions and charity events.
The Chairman aims to establish and maintain links with people in the local community and attendance at community events is an important part of their civic year.
A chain and badge of office on all ceremonial occasions in the district and at all meetings of the Council is worn by The Chairman. The chain has 24 links representing each parish in Blaby District. A millennium link was added in the year 2000. The badge depicts the Council's coat of arms. An explanation of its origins and design can be obtained from the Chairman of Democratic Services.
The Chairman is pleased to support Air Ambulance as his chosen charity for the year.
