Hazardous Substances

The Council is responsible for ensuring that regulations regarding hazardous substances are followed by catering establishments, offices and shops.

The effects of hazardous substances can include:

  • Lung disease due to dusty conditions
  • Skin irritation, dermatitis or skin cancer due to frequent contact with oils or corrosive liquids
  • Occupational asthma
  • Cancer

Whilst the Council is responsible for catering, offices and shops, the Health and Safety Executive is responsible for manufacturing premises.
