Which Council Does What

Within Blaby District there are different services delivered by different councils. The largest local authority that covers this area is Leicestershire County Council, then there are the services handled by Blaby District Council, while some issues are dealt with by your local parish or town council.

It's important to look for the right organisation when you need to make an enquiry about a particular service. Here are the different organisations and what services they cover:

Member of Parliament

You can also contact your local MP if you wish to enquire about a local matter, for example you could:

  • Query a decision by a Government office or agency
  • Tell them about a problem affecting people in your local area
  • Ask them to support a particular campaign you feel strongly about

Peter Bedford covers Braunstone, Glenfield, Leicester Forest East, Kirby Muxloe and Lubbesthorpe. Alberto Costa is for the rest of Blaby District.

Other regions

There are several other local authorities that operate outside the jurisdiction of Blaby District, for example Leicester City Council. The structure outlined above is the case for most rural and non-urban regions in the United Kingdom.

Council Tax breakdown

Although Council Tax is typically collected at borough or district level, less than 10% of this is allocated to that authority's budget. Visit our Council Tax Information page to see how much of this is allocated to Leicestershire County Council, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Blaby District Council, the Fire Authority and Parish Councils.
