A new lottery with a £25,000 jackpot is launching in the District of Blaby to support local good causes.
Blaby District Council’s Councillors approved plans for the authority to launch its own online community lottery, Love Blaby Lottery, to benefit local community organisations across the local area.
Tickets cost just £1, with 60p given to local good causes, compared to only 28p in every pound from National Lottery ticket sales. The lottery is anticipated to launch in 2018.
Weekly draws will be held with a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers. £2,000, £250, £25 and three free tickets can also be won in each draw.
Good causes in the district will be able to set up their own lottery page to receive 50p in every pound spent by players entering. 10p is put into a general ‘good cause’ fund to be administered by the Council.
Players who do not support a specific cause will see 60p of their ticket price going into the general good causes fund and distributed by the Council.
Councillor Sheila Scott, Portfolio holder for Planning, Housing Strategy, Economic and Community Development, said: “The Love Blaby Lottery provides a great opportunity to help local good causes to raise additional money.
“We are committed to continuing our support to local community groups through our community grants scheme and other initiatives, including plans to appoint a Community Champion who will lead on this exciting initiative.”
