Nominations for the eighth annual Blaby Local Sports Alliance (LSA) Sports Awards are now open.
Sponsored by Cherry Lane Garden Centre, the Sports Awards are an opportunity to honour the outstanding sports stars, teams and unsung volunteers in the local area.
The awards will take place on Thursday 16 November 2017 at Countesthorpe Leysland Community College, as finalists in ten categories are honoured for their incredible sporting efforts during the previous year.
Anyone living in Blaby District or representing a school or club within the area is eligible to be nominated. The categories are:
- Volunteer of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Team of the Year (16+)
- Young Team of the Year
- Sports Person of the Year (16+)
- Sports Person (with a disability) of the Year (16+)
- Young Sports Person of the Year (under 16)
- Young Sports Person (with a disability) of the Year (under 16)
- Active 4 life – Health and Wellbeing Award
- Blaby LSA Special Recognition award
Councillor Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Health and Leisure, said: “We are proud to open nominations for this year’s Blaby District LSA Sports Awards once again. They are our chance to honour both individuals and teams who have had a great year in sport.
“Not only do these awards highlight the achievements of local residents but they also show how active people in the district are. We encourage anyone who knows a great sporting star, volunteer or team to nominate.”
Previous winners include highly rated archer Lizzie Warner and professional cyclist Grace Garner.
