Three public locations in the district have pledged to become more accessible to people living with dementia.
Forest House Medical Centre in Leicester Forest East, the Limes Medical Centre in Narborough and Glenfield Parish Council have become supporters of the Blaby District Dementia Action Alliance, which aims to create a district with dementia friendly residents and buildings.
Staff at each centre attended a ‘Dementia Friends’ information session, learning about dementia and how they can become a community and environment that takes into account the needs of those affected by dementia.
Changes to make a business or organisation more dementia friendly include replacing dark coloured mats in reception areas, improving access and signage and being aware of how noises can affect different individuals.
The three locations join eight other sites from across district committed to being dementia friendly in 2017: Blaby Library, Countesthorpe Medical Centre, Enderby Community Library, Enderby Parish Council, Enderby Medical Centre, Glenfield Library, Glen Hills Library and Glen Parva Parish Council.
