A specialised cardiac rehabilitation programme has launched at Blaby District Council’s Pavilion Leisure Centre.
Heart Smart is a scheme for people recovering from heart problems or heart surgery. The 16 week programme will help to achieve and maintain a better and healthier lifestyle.
Users are referred to Heart Smart via a hospital or GP, depending on their condition or stage of recovery. The programme, funded by Leicestershire County Council, is a county-wide partnership with Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport, Local Authorities, GPs and hospitals.
The District of Blaby’s scheme is being hosted from the Huncote-based leisure centre, in the 37-station gym under the guidance of a fully qualified British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (BACPR) instructor.
Each programme costs just £50 for the 16 weeks. A £5 pay-as-you-go offer is also available.
After the scheme, users can either join the Exercise Referral Scheme offered by the Council’s Leisure team, or become a full member of the Leisure Centre on a reduced rate.
Iain Hewson, Portfolio Holder for Health Improvement, Leisure and Regulatory Services, said: “We are very proud to invest and commit to bringing the Heart Smart scheme in-house at the Pavilion Leisure Centre.
“This scheme has and will continue to change lives. We encourage anyone who feels they are eligible for the programme to contact their GP for a referral.”
