Blaze the Spaniel has won a hamper just in time for Christmas after his owner entered him into the recent Dogs of Blaby competition.
Local resident Rachel Markham sent a in a picture Blaze in his fluorescent coat, meaning he can be seen on daily walks in the winter months. Rachel received a hamper from Senior Animal Services Officer Michelle Ikin, featuring a dog bed, Christmas jumper, selection box and Christmas toy.
Dogs of Blaby received entries from dog owners across the district showing their pooch illuminated for a walk when it’s dark.
Michelle said: “We’re happy to meet Rachel and Blaze to give them this prize in time for Christmas. It’s brilliant to see residents take part in the competition, and we definitely enjoy viewing the entries!
“We have a serious message to ensure dogs can be seen when it’s dark. Not only does it help pedestrians, cyclists and drivers spot a dog, but it also means the owner can see if it walks off ahead. We see an increase in dog fouling because owners cannot see what their dog is doing.”
Entries were received via the Council’s Facebook, Twitter and through email with the winner drawn at random.
