Could you help set up Blaby District Council’s next Good Neighbour Scheme? A celebration event at the Council’s offices will show the difference local residents can make to their community.
Good Neighbour Schemes link local volunteers with more vulnerable and isolated members of a community. Tasks range from helping to change a lightbulb, driving to the shops or doctors and many other small tasks most people take for granted.
Four schemes across the district are already in place and helping many vulnerable residents already in Croft, Sapcote, Sharnford and Whetstone. The hugely popular Whetstone Good Neighbour Scheme recently won an Outstanding Achievement Award following multiple nominations from users of the scheme.
The celebration is a chance to hear first-hand from both volunteers and residents on the benefits each scheme has had on people’s lives, whilst also highlighting the hard work and achievements of dedicated volunteers running these vital schemes in the District of Blaby.
Councillor Sheila Scott, Portfolio Holder Planning, Housing Strategy, Economic and Community Development, said: “The concept of a Good Neighbour Scheme may seem very simple but the impacts are enormous. We know the help volunteers provide through all four schemes is invaluable and they are nothing short of a lifeline to some of our residents.
“Our celebration event is to show our appreciation to everyone involved in making them a success and hope their stories might inspire the development of more schemes in the district.”
The celebration event will take place at the Council’s Narborough offices on Tuesday 05 December from 4-6pm. For more information or to book a place call 0116 272 7566 or email email@example.com.
